Last week i went out to Italy to compete in this years Uci mountain bike and trials world championship. It was an amazing area we stayed at in the mountains. The trials competition was held separately to the rest of the weeks competitions, in a small village. I was looking forward to the competition, but i was a bit nervous as i had not been able to trai nalot before the week, due to various reasons. For me there were 4 man made sections in the town, and 4 natural sections in the river. The competition and sections were very good, and i was riding them well. Usually i am more suited to the technical natural sections than i am to the man made ones, but i seemed to be riding the man made sections really well and confidently, and the river sections badly!. My first lap was a bit scabby, but that was to be expected, i hoped to pick it up on the second lap. Unfortunately on my first section of my second lap, the cable reels, i had a stupid 5, i done an easy gap into a hook, but just slide straight off the cable reel i landed on! I was very annoyed as i knew that i could of gotten out of teh section for a 1. The rest of the man made sections went well, and i seemed to be picking my ride up. That was until i got to the river sections again. I fived the first section, which i think i should of be given a 4 for, the next section was a horrible bank section, that everyone before me had fived, i managed to get through the section for a 2, but because i had not seen anyone else get to the end of the section, i rolled down the last hill, and went straight over what i thought was the ends tape, it wasnt, the ends tape was set slightly to left, which meant i missed it by about one inch! The next 2 sections were set in the river, the first one was very tricky, which a mix of bigish moves, and technical moves, i just went for every move confidently, it was all going well, until i had to take a dab around the second to last rock, which i couldn't of ridden, because it was to slippery, and very hard for a left foot forward rider like me, I took the dab and pulled the bike along the side of the rock, but the observer gave me a five for apparently putting my frame over the marker!. the very last section was another technical slippery section, which i lost 1 point on. I was very annoyed at the end of the day, i was riding great, and thought i had a good chance on getting into the finals (top 8) like last year, but the mix of stupid mistakes, and dodgy calls from observers pushed me down to a disappointing and embarrassing 18th. It was a great trip non the less, I had some good rides after the comp, training on all the sections after they had been used.
