Last week i travelled to Shanghai in China for the first ever Jin Mao World bike trial masters cup, Which was held on the lawn of the Jin Mao tower, the largest building in Asia, and was held to welcome the Olympics in Beijing. The organisers worked very hard to run this event and all of the riders needs were met, there were some great spectacular sections that were very fun to ride. The competition was split over 2 days, with 4 rounds of competition lasting one lap each. In the afternoon of the first day the first round of competition was held, the sections proved very technical and tricky, and although i made some mistakes i was very happy with my ride that day, and was confident for the rest of the competitions. I finished the first day in 9th place, tied 8th with Ben savage who is the Current British champion, and ex world champion. After the first round the top 20 riders went through to day 2. The second round of competition was held on the morning of the second day. I did not feel as confident as i did on the first day, making a lot of small mistakes, however i was still riding consistent and was in 9th place going into the final section. This involved gapping into an oversized half pipe and going up the other side, i gapped into the half pipe to low which meant i was not able to get the speed i needed, i just managed to get my front wheel to the top, but i made the mistake of trying to go back down the ramp to try again, this didn't work and i 5'd the section. I was very annoyed and this put me down to 14th, and only the top 10 progressed to the next round. The 4th and final round was won by the 3x world champion Danni Comas from Spain. On Saturday myself, Ben Savage and Jeff Anderson from Canada went riding at an amazing rocky stream area in the middle of Shanghai with a group of local riders. This was great fun, and we got to see what the local level was like.
This was a great event and i would like to thank all of the organisers, investors and riders than helped make the event possible.
